Ryo Fukui, the celebrated pianist from Hokkaido who passed away in 2016, earned worldwide acclaim through his early landmark works Scenery and Mellow Dream. A Letter From Slowboat, recorded in 2015, was his first album as a leader in sixteen years. The sessions took place at Slowboat, his musical home, alongside two young musicians whose talent he deeply respected. From the delicate lyricism of “Sonora” to the poetic warmth of “Stella By Starlight” and the vibrant energy of “Speak Low,” each performance brims with life. His touch grew more commanding, his emotions more profound, and his musical voice more luxuriant than ever.
