A milestone in Japanese music history, Hiroshi Sato’s solo debut Super Market showcases the early brilliance of a musician who would go on to become a defining figure in the world of city pop and jazz-influenced pop music. Recorded at Electra Studios in California with an ensemble of talented local musicians — including Amos Garrett and Joe Carrello — the album blends smooth grooves, gentle funk, and warm West Coast influences into Sato’s unmistakable sonic palette.
This edition features Sato’s own reinterpretation of “Rainbow Sealine”, a song he originally wrote for Minako Yoshida, as well as “F.W.Y.”, later covered by Chu Kosaka. Originally released on May 25, 1976 (LQ-7008), Super Market remains a timeless testament to Sato’s musical versatility and early creative vision.
