Japanese crossover and fusion are back in the spotlight. Riding the wave of the global city pop revival, Japanese fusion has seen a strong resurgence in recent years, capturing the attention of listeners worldwide.
Marking their 10th anniversary, Casiopea made a bold move by departing from their longtime home at Alpha Records and launching their own label, Aura, in partnership with Polydor (now Universal Music). This release became their first album under the new imprint and symbolized a fresh chapter for the band. Recorded in New York, the album embraces the sleek, dance-oriented rhythms that defined the era, delivering an energetic and forward-looking sound filled with vibrant grooves.
The album is further elevated by an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including acclaimed Brazilian singer-songwriter Djavan, whom the band connected with during a South American tour the previous year; legendary percussionist Steve Thornton, known for his work with Miles Davis and Sadao Watanabe; and celebrated saxophonist Lenny Pickett, formerly of Tower of Power. Originally released in 1987, this album stands as a dynamic statement of reinvention from one of Japan’s most influential fusion bands.
