Kensuke Ushio, also known for his solo electronic project agraph, began his scoring career with the anime Ping Pong The Animation. Drawing from techno, house, and electro influences, he has developed a distinctive musical language that blends modern electronic textures with cinematic storytelling. His acclaimed body of work includes projects such as Dandadan, Chi: About the Movement of the Earth, and Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, as well as collaborations with renowned directors across anime and live-action film.

Ikoku Nikki tells the poignant story of Makio Takashiro, a reserved novelist who suddenly finds herself caring for her teenage niece Asa after a family tragedy. Their new life together begins awkwardly—Makio, unused to companionship, struggles with the presence of another person in her quiet world, while Asa grapples with loss and a growing sense of displacement. Despite their contrasting personalities—Makio’s introspection and Asa’s openness—the two slowly build a fragile connection, navigating grief, identity, and the meaning of family.
