From New Line Cinema and in collaboration with Water Tower Music, Waxwork Records proudly presents the release of MORTAL KOMBAT (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring the electrifying score by acclaimed composer Benjamin Wallfisch.

Released in 2021, Mortal Kombat is a martial arts fantasy film inspired by the legendary video game franchise. Serving as a reboot and the third installment in the Mortal Kombat film series, the movie is directed by Simon McQuoid and follows Cole Young, a struggling MMA fighter who discovers his mysterious heritage while being pursued by the deadly assassin Sub-Zero. To protect his family and fulfill his destiny, Cole joins a group of powerful warriors chosen to defend Earthrealm from the forces of Outworld.

The film’s intense and cinematic score was composed by Benjamin Wallfisch, who approached the project as both a composer and longtime fan of the original games. Working closely with director Simon McQuoid, Wallfisch crafted a soundtrack that combines massive orchestral arrangements with aggressive electronic and EDM influences, perfectly capturing the energy and brutality of the Mortal Kombat universe.

One of the standout moments of the score is “Techno Syndrome 2021,” Wallfisch’s modern reimagining of the iconic theme made famous by The Immortals. Blending nostalgic motifs with contemporary electronic production, the track pays tribute to one of gaming’s most recognizable musical themes while introducing it to a new generation.

Reflecting on the project, Wallfisch shared that he felt a tremendous responsibility scoring a franchise so deeply rooted in pop culture. His goal was to honor the legacy of the original music while expanding it into a larger cinematic soundscape, ultimately creating a score that celebrates both the history of Mortal Kombat and the enduring impact of electronic dance music
