Hakushi Hasegawa, a Tokyo-based musician and singer-songwriter, is the first Japanese artist signed to the Brainfeeder label. After signing in July 2023, they released the single “Mouth Flash (Kuchinohanabi)”, featuring bass by Sam Wilkes. Shortly after, Hakushi debuted at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival. In September, they created the soundtrack for Comme des Garçons’ Spring/Summer 2024 show at Paris Fashion Week.
Known for blending alternative, electronic, jazz, and pop/J-pop, Hakushi’s music defies genre. Since debuting in 2018 with Somoku Hodo, they’ve gained a following in Japan and internationally. Collaborations include Kid Fresino, TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA, and Eye from Boredoms. Their debut album Air Ni Ni (2019) solidified their reputation as one of Japan’s most adventurous artists.
