“ISSHOKU SOKUHATSU,” a landmark album from the dawn of Japanese rock, was released in 1974 alongside classics like Sadistic Mika Band’s Kurofune and King Crimson’s Red.
Remarkably in sync with the peak of UK progressive rock, the album showcases outstanding technical skill and forward-thinking creativity—still sounding fresh and widely rediscovered today.
Influenced by early ’70s international acts, the band evolved from blues and hard rock into a more expansive progressive style, blending lyricism, humor, and psychedelic elements. Created independently by four young musicians, it’s often regarded as Japan’s first self-produced rock album and a key precursor to what would later be known as J-Fusion.
