Nothing Space Music is the latest album from Japanese psychedelic trio maya ongaku, a band that has always explored the world just beyond the edge of perception. Formed in the seaside towns surrounding Enoshima, the group follows a creative philosophy rooted in 自然発生 (shizen hassei)—the idea of spontaneous occurrence—allowing songs and ideas to emerge naturally rather than through deliberate planning.
Created after several years of international touring, the album reflects the band’s desire to reconnect with silence and stillness. As their audiences grew and the pace of life accelerated, maya ongaku turned inward, searching for the quiet spaces hidden beneath everyday noise. This journey gave birth to the concept of “Nothing Space”—a place where presence, perception, and attentive listening become central to the musical experience.
To bring this vision to life, the trio established Nothing Space Studio, transforming a large soundproof building near a seaside shrine in their hometown into a creative sanctuary designed specifically for recording this album.
Rich with immersive textures, meditative atmospheres, and organic psychedelic soundscapes, Nothing Space Music invites listeners to slow down, embrace silence, and rediscover the beauty of simply listening.
