The pianist Ryo Fukui revealed a gentle, comforting dream through his delicate touch, warm tone, and elegant musical ideas. This outstanding second album shows him expressing himself with even greater depth and confidence.
Recorded roughly a year after Scenery, this follow-up preserves the sensitivity and emotional nuance of his earlier work while introducing a newfound strength that gives his musical world clearer shape and striking dimension. From the bittersweet, deeply moving melody of “Mellow Dream” to the vibrant, uplifting energy of “Horizon,” every performance shines with clarity and feeling. Notably, the number of original compositions—just one on his debut—has grown to three here, offering a fuller glimpse into Fukui’s artistry and compositional voice. Given its maturity and the richness of its content, it’s fair to say this album may even surpass his first release.
Ryo Fukui, who sadly passed away in 2016, left behind a legacy defined by a delicate touch, lush tonal colors, and a beautiful musical imagination. With sincere gratitude for the “Mellow Dream” he shared with us.
