Nicolas Winding Refn’s cult film Drive exudes a kind of effortless cool that’s almost impossible to capture in words. Just revisit the iconic opening credits set to “Nightcall” and you’re instantly pulled back into that neon-soaked world of late-night highways and unspoken tension. Since the movie’s release, the track has become a permanent fixture on countless playlists, soundtracking after-hours moments with its slow-burning synth glow and cinematic atmosphere.
Now Kavinsky returns from the shadows with a fresh spin on his nocturnal universe, delivering a selection of alternate versions, remixes, and reinterpretations that invite listeners back behind the wheel for another ride through the midnight cityscape.
“Nightcall” was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAn, blending Kavinsky’s eerie, distorted vocal delivery with the seductive tones of Lovefoxxx from CSS. The result is a hypnotic balance of darkness and allure that perfectly defines his signature sound.
On the flip side, “Pacific Coast Highway” dives even deeper into the mythology. A narrated high-speed chase unfolds over shimmering arpeggiated synths, conjuring images of a ghostly sports car tearing down the freeway under city lights. It’s pure retro-futuristic adrenaline — stylish, cinematic, and unmistakably Kavinsky.
