The critically acclaimed action-adventure franchise God of War debuted in 2005 and quickly became a phenomenon, prompting Santa Monica Studio to expand the saga with multiple sequels and spin-offs. Its 2018 reinvention for the PlayStation 4 follows Kratos and his son Atreus on a deeply personal journey through the Norse realms, driven by the consequences of his past and a desire for redemption.
The 2018 installment was met with widespread critical acclaim for its storytelling, visual design, combat mechanics, characters, and music, earning numerous Game of the Year honors. It was also a major commercial success, surpassing five million copies sold within its first month and becoming one of the console’s top-selling titles.
Its official score—winner of a BAFTA Award—was composed by Bear McCreary, who built a rich musical identity around the game’s central characters. Drawing inspiration from Nordic folk traditions, he incorporated unusual instrumentation, ancient languages, thunderous percussion, haunting choirs, and the powerful voice of Faroese artist Eivør Pálsdóttir. McCreary is also known for his work on series such as Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and The Walking Dead.
This release arrives as a limited pressing of 1,500 individually numbered copies on striking turquoise vinyl, complete with a 4-page booklet featuring liner notes written by McCreary himself.
