Originally released in 1974 on pioneering jazz label Strata-East, ‘The Sojourner’ by the incredible Ensemble al-Salaam would become one of the label’s most sought-after records. Over nine tracks, the band is perfectly in sync, expressing their spirituality through one ethereal soulful groove after another. The closer “Peace (Salaam)” stands out as a highlight, with warm spiritual tones and a beautiful haunting melody bringing the album to a close.
