Celebrating 25 years of Ape Escape—the first PlayStation game to require the DualShock controller—Originape Soundtracks in a Box is a tribute to one of the most inventive platformers of its era. With its fast-paced, gadget-filled gameplay and iconic analog controls, Ape Escape stood out for its sheer energy—reflected perfectly in Soichi Terada’s high-BPM, jungle-influenced soundtrack.

This was Terada’s first-ever video game score, selected after producers heard his track “Sumo Jungle.” The result? A perfect blend of quirky charm and pulse-pounding rhythm, inseparable from the image of Kakeru and the Pipo Monkeys in constant motion. Terada recalls: “Spike and his friends always have the image of running,” inspiring tracks that rarely drop below 170bpm.

Previously available only on a Japan-exclusive CD, these reconstructed, high-fidelity versions were created by Terada using his original arrangements. This definitive vinyl edition includes nearly all music from Ape Escape 1—excluding tracks featured on 2024’s Apes in the Net EP—and adds one completely unreleased bonus track.

Expertly mastered for vinyl by Justin Perkins (Mystery Room Mastering) using Terada’s premastered sources. Features high-resolution 300dpi artwork by Gobo3D, faithfully recreated from original Japanese materials. A love letter to Ape Escape and the PS1’s analog era—released in time for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary.
